CALLING ALL CALCULATORS!

The Interlake High School Math Department does not loan calculators.

Occasionally a student may use one over night but the calculator must be

returned by the following morning before school.

During recent weeks a number of calculators have gone missing, possibly

since there were so many students taking a number of tests including the

WASL.  Can you check at home to see if possibly a school calculator has

found its way there, please?  They are painted the lovely colors of

either pink, orange, or yellow.

Thank you for your help.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

THE GREEK SUMMER (GS) program was created more than 35 years ago by  the American Farm School in Thessaloniki, Greece to offer young  Americans an unmatched opportunity to be immersed in a foreign  culture, challenging them physically and emotionally.  Every summer  a group of high school students takes the six week odyssey that combines community service,  village home-stay, travel, and an introduction to the American Farm  School.  Participants  spend a short time at the School, but the core of the program is  time spent living with a family in a small Greek village where they  undertake a much needed community service project.  Students receive a certificate for their service hours (70-80 hrs) at  the end of the program.

In addition to the community service element, participants tour the  historic and archeological sites of Greece, spend time on the  island of Skopelos, and make an unforgettable two-day ascent to the  summit of Mount Olympus.

The website states an application deadline of April 22, but applications are still being accepted! Intended for current  sophomores and juniors. Program dates this summer are June 24- August 3. Applications, photos, journal entries, and more  information can be found on our website, www.greeksummer.org.  If  you have any questions contact Matina Marks at 773.322.2994 or  mmarks@amerfarm.org . In addition, if you would like to talk to a  past participant who graduated from the International School in  Bellevue and played Interlake soccer, contact Katie Curtis at  425-213-6523 or curtiska@gmail.com.

READY, SET, GO!   Want 24 hours of food, entertainment and fun - AND earn 24 hours of school community service hours?  The dates are June 21-22, 2008, Bellevue Downtown Park for Bellevue's 24 Hour Relay Challenge!  Start recruiting your team now.  24 Hour Relay information and Team Registration forms are now available in the Career Center.

LAKE HEIGHTS FAMILY YMCA  If you like sports and working with children, then consider a volunteer position with the Lake Heights Family YMCA as a sports camp counselor.  Student camp counselors choose from various sporting activities, such as all-star week, baseball, basketball, and sports sampler.  The camps begin June 23 through August 25. Campers love to have the older athletes come and play and give pointers. Earn community service hours. Contact Vicky Hinds at 425-644-8417.

SENIOR BACCALAUREATE is an interfaith celebration and tradition Interlake has held for years and years. Come and join us in honoring the soon-to-be graduates’ journeys through school. It is meant to be a time for students to bid one last goodbye with the sharing of their talents and achievements. Whether through music, speech or other performance, the theme of the night is to inspire. Stories of what brought them this far, how they made it through and the memories they made along the way are all what make this an afternoon to remember.

Students emcee the event and guests from the school and community will share words of wisdom to the graduating class.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to come to the Baccalaureate which is a non-school sponsored event and is sponsored by IHS PTSA.

We hope you can join us for this wonderful event!

Food donations (cookies and finger foods) will be greatly appreciated. If you would like to help or if you have any questions, please contact: Sara Wilson (sdwilson5@comcast.net) or Keiko Zahed (glory.intl@comcast.net).
