March 28th, 2008- Interlake versus Mount Si 1-2 Loss

Following a thrilling win on Wednesday, Interlake was ready to take it to Mount Si. Despite being oversized by the bigger mountain boys, Interlake continues to play with heart and a desire to win. Interlake draws first blood with another goal mouth scramble, this time John finds Andy who scores the first goal. The game goes back and forth but no other goals in the first half. After what must have been an “inspiring” halftime talk, Mount Si comes out charging and playing a much more physical game. Interlake players don’t fold under the pressure and their brand of no-fear soccer keeps the game close. The size mismatch however does start to take its toll as some of the players need help off the field. Mount Si eventually scores on an unfortunate deflected shot that Daniel has no chance to stop. Soon after, Mount Si scores again to take the lead. The snow begins to fall like it did in the previous game and the fans wonder, could Interlake come back? After a few near misses, the game ends 1-2. Lots of bumps and bruises from the game but the Saints never gave up. They again came to play with the desire to win. This time they just came up a bit “short”!
March 26th, 2008- Interlake versus Sammamish 2-1 Victory!

The “Miracle in Snow”? I think not! Sammamish was blaming it on the snow but Interlake fans know differently – it was all about heart and the desire to win, especially against cross-town rivals. After an early Sammamish goal, Interlake ties the game on a heads-up goal mouth scramble when Jordan finds Andy standing all alone; Andy makes no mistake and slams the rock into the back of the net to tie the game. The game continues to go back and forth with no-one able to take the lead. Right before half, Kyle preserves the first half tie with an out-from-nowhere header that saves a sure goal. Second half starts and both teams continue where they left, playing hard to take the lead. The snow begins to fall and soon the sky is masked in snow. The game continues tied until Jordan sneaks a long pass to Andy who finds Nathan breaking in on net. With a great near post shot, Nathan scores to take the lead. The Interlake fans erupt! Sammamish pours on the pressure but the Interlake defense bends but doesn’t break. Great effort by the Interlake squad and goalie Daniel preserves the tie despite the referee allowing the game to go on 5 extra minutes! Was it the snow? No, just the heart of a bunch of high school players playing together for Saints pride!
March 24th, 2008- Bellevue vs. Interlake
After earning their first point of the season, Interlake was looking for another strong result. The first half was played mainly defensively, but Interlake still had some moments that they looked to capitalize on. The long throw-ins by Nathan were a consistent opportunity for the Saints, but they couldn’t find the net. In the middle of the first half, Bellevue was able to get their first goal on a corner kick. Interlake quickly responded when Nathan found the back of the net from the top of the 18 yard box to tie up the game. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long as the Wolverines quickly took back the lead. The half ended 2-1, but Coach Peterson and the Saints had the belief that they could make the comeback.
The second half didn’t get much better, Bellevue started to dominate the possession and put a lot of pressure on Interlake’s defense. The Saints were occasionally able to push out and string some passes together but couldn’t find the last touch towards goal. Bellevue was able to put the match away on a corner kick, putting them ahead 3-1. Interlake looked like they were going to find their second of the game, but came up short with many close shots. The game concluded in a disappointing 3-1 defeat for the Saints.
March 21st, 2008- Liberty vs. Interlake
This was the match of two of the bottom three teams. The Saints went into this game with a goal of winning their first points of the season. The first half was played fairly evenly, the only difference being when Nathan dribbled through the Patriot defense only to be brought down inside the 18 yard box earning a penalty kick. He calmly buried Interlake’s first goal of the season, putting Interlake up 1-0.
After coming out of half time, the Patriots put away the tying goal, capitalizing on a corner kick. The Liberty Patriots put a lot of pressure on the Interlake defense, but held them to just one goal in the second half, bringing the first overtime of the season for either team.
Within a minute of the whistle, Liberty dribbled down the field and put them ahead with a quick goal. However, Interlake didn’t give up and kept pushing for the equalizer. In the 87th minute, Kyle played a ball up the middle of the field, Andy dummied it and the ball came perfectly through the Patriot defense to Jordan who curled the ball around the Liberty goalie, tying the game up. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.
March 18th, 2008- Skyline vs. Interlake
Interlake went to Skyline knowing that it was going to be a tough game. In the first half, the saints were outplayed by the spartans and came out of the half losing just 1-0 on an unfortunate own goal.
In the second half, the spartans were able to find the goal. They took advantage of a penalty kick and put in two nice shots to finish the game 4-0.
The Junior Varsity team almost pulled of an upset. Freshmen midfielder Eric Ritter scored two goals, but came up short in a 3-2 loss.
