Honors Music is being offered for the first time in
the Bellevue School
District. This program covers three areas of music:
performance, music theory and music history.
The audition for Honors Music is performance-based. Students will
be asked to perform scales, an etude and a sight-reading
exercise. Materials will be provided to the student along with
details regarding the time and date of the audition. A copy of
this letter, indicating your understanding and commitment to the
program must be turned in at your audition.
This program will require students to practice, prepare and perform
outside the regular school day. Samples of the required events
include the following:
1. Make an audition
CD for All Northwest or All State. (Participation in the ensemble is
optional, auditioning is not).
2. Chamber
Ensemble: Students will rehearse with a chamber ensemble
independent of teacher instruction (including any private
instructors). Rehearsals may take place outside of regularly
scheduled class-time.
3. Eastshore
Solo/Ensemble: Students will perform their ensemble at Eastshore
Solo & Ensemble. This is a Saturday commitment.
4. Students must
achieve a B or higher on the Music Theory and Music History Exam.
5. Honors
Night: To be held in May. Over the course of the year,
students develop a project which is presented at "Honors Night".
In November, the project proposal is to be turned into their instructor
for a panel review. Projects can include but are certainly not
limited to researching, rehearsing and conducting a composition;
Creating and performing a composition; Selecting, researching,
preparing and performing a solo or chamber work.
6. Once you begin
the Honors Music program, you may not exit the program.
7. Honors Music
grades will be weighted similar to other Honors and AP courses.
