Choir at Newport High School

Erika and Sanjaya welcome you to the choir website!

Have you seen the Calendar yet? If not, you'd better look at it soon.

Welcome to the home of the Newport High School Choral Department! We currently have two choirs that meet during the day and one that meets after school. All of them are TERRIFIC this year! The treble choir consists of 50 young ladies, and the Mixed Choir is about 50 men and women. We have a jazz choir, KnightSounds, that meets after school.

Since our new theater won't be opening until June, our concerts are scheduled at various venues throughout the district this year. Keep checking this website or contact your favorite choir student to find out those locations.

May, 2007
The choir just got back from a whirlwind trip of southern California during spring break. We had a wonderful workshop at USC with the head of choral studies, Dr. Magen Solomon. We also got to hear the final dress rehearsal of their top choir before their last concert. We spent some time in Hollywood and attended "Wicked" at the beautiful Pantages Theater on Hollywood boulevard and met the cast afterwards for a question and answer session. We performed in Disneyland and had a recording session with Brent Pierce who hires all the live vocal talent in the park. All of the people we met during the tour were very generous with their time and talent and gave us many valuable pointers on how to be successful not only in the entertainment industry, but also in every aspect of daily life. It was the best trip the choir has taken to date.

Congratulations to Eastshore Solo & Ensemble winners Erika Price, Kasey Koopmans, Andrea Zomorodian, Corey Roberts, Elizabeth Bender and LIan Caspi. All qualified to go on to the State Solo and Ensemble Competition in Ellensburg.

Congratulations to Kasey Koopmans for winning her division for the state Solo and Ensemble competition. Kasey is the best mezzo soprano in the state of Washington. Way to go, Kasey!

Upcoming dates of interest:

PTSA Tile Fundraiser (click for flier)
The Newport PTSA is proud to give us all the opportunity to be a part of Newport history. They are selling tiles to be placed in the entrance courtyard. It is vital to the music department that we support this fundraiser wholeheartedly. Many of the proceeds will go towards upgrades and finishing touches in our new Theater. Please take a look at the flier and come to the concert on December 13th ready to order your tile. Our final push to reach our goal is at our concert. Please help us provide a professional quality theater for Newport students to perform in for years to come.
